Alertgy Welcomes Executive-Level Director of Engineering
Benjamin “Ben” Freer - Director of Engineering/Principal Sensor Engineer
Alertgy, the biotech startup that’s in the race to be the first company to develop an entirely non-invasive glucose monitoring system is proud to welcome a new hire in the Engineering Department: Benjamin Freer joins Alertgy as Director of Engineering/Principal Sensor Engineer.
“By far, the most exciting aspect of being on the Alertgy team is the opportunity to see a dream of mine realized,” Freer says. “I have a significant history with this application and technology, and I’m looking forward to taking it to the next level.”
Ben brings over 15 years of experience in radio frequency (RF) engineering within the R&D industry. Along with a strong grasp of technology development, he has led multiple teams on large-scale electronics programs. Originally from the New York area, his diverse engineering background began with an electrical engineering degree from SUNY Buffalo. After, Ben received his master’s in electrical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. His defended thesis titled “Feasibility of non-invasive wireless blood glucose monitors” aligned directly with the company’s mission.
As Director of Engineering/Principle Sensor Engineer, Ben will support strategic initiatives for sensor development and implementation. He will be directly managing the engineering team and furthering Alertgy’s progress towards a commercially available non-invasive blood glucometer.
“I think it’s fair to say that Alertgy chose me. This idea has been a part of my life ever since I began working on it in school, more than 10 years ago, but I never thought I would be able to make it a reality. I give all the credit to Marc Rippen (CEO of Alertgy) and this amazing team he has put together – without his vision, and invitation to join the team, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
Alertgy is proud to welcome Ben to the team and utilize not only his expertise and skill, but also his passion for this up-and-coming remarkable technology.
Will Flanery - Embedded Systems Engineer
Alertgy also welcomes Will Flanery to the team! Will is a key hire, bringing over 19 years of experience in R&D and product development as an Embedded Systems Engineer. He will play a pivotal role in programming and designing custom hardware for Alertgy’s non-invasive glucometer, along with a host of other sensors found in Alertgy’s most recent DeepGluco® prototype.
Will has a diverse skillset with extensive knowledge in PCB design, Systems design, programming, project management, optics, and more. Previously serving as Embedded Systems Engineer at SRI International, Marine Technology Laboratory, Will developed strong relationships with two of Alertgy’s leaders: Marc Rippen (CEO), and Daniel Brent (Contracts Manager).
In his new role at Alertgy, Will is “Seeking [an] opportunity to apply my skills and talents to the creation of products that make the world a better place…” With Alertgy’s massive potential to improve the lives of millions of diabetics, Will is set on doing just that.
Alertgy’s newest team members will help streamline the development process of our current and future technologies. We are happy to welcome Ben and Will to the team, and we are excited to see what the future holds. For more information about Ben and Will, please visit www.alertgy.com.
